International Yoga Day

International Yoga Day, also known as World Yoga Day, is celebrated annually on June 21st. It was designated by the United Nations General Assembly in 2014 to promote the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of practicing yoga.

The idea for International Yoga Day was proposed by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, during his address to the UN General Assembly in September 2014. The proposal received overwhelming support, and on December 11th, 2014, the United Nations declared June 21st as International Yoga Day.

The date of June 21st holds significance as it is the summer solstice, the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and a day of special significance in various parts of the world. It is believed that practicing yoga on this day enhances the connection between the individual and the cosmic energies.

The aim of International Yoga Day is to raise awareness about the numerous physical and mental health benefits of practicing yoga. It seeks to encourage people of all age groups and fitness levels to incorporate yoga into their daily lives.

On this day, various yoga-related events, workshops, and demonstrations take place worldwide to promote yoga as a holistic approach to health and well-being.

International Yoga Day has gained immense popularity globally, with millions of people participating in yoga sessions and events organized in parks, public spaces, yoga studios, and community centers. It serves as a platform to spread the message of harmony, peace, and unity among individuals and communities through the practice of yoga.
